Economics is the simplest of the social sciences.
However it lost its way whyle trying to update itself to be ready for the flood of changes in the twentieth century
But first, economic processes in principle:
Taking bits and peaces of nature and modifying them to enable us to survive and thrive
The mst significant results of this is our ability to fashion the environment into sophisticated tools.
With the help of simple tools, at he start of human evolution we ecolved during about two million years to begin constructing settled civilisations after we mastered the arts of agriculture andanimal husbandry about ten thousand years ago. But increasingly powerful machines that had the potential to liberate us from spending most of our time working to survive did not appear until we learned to utilised stored up fossil fuels around be beginning of early modern period of post fiteen century. Then with the scientific/industrial revolutions in the 18/19th century mechansation and automation of productive processes, welth creaton and general prosperity became real.
However, these tools become a threat when their power is misused in our advanced stage of development. Something more than knowledge and inventive ability needs to safeguard us from kaking serious mistakes with lethal consequences--- our intellect must be guided by wisdom -- a sense of purpose that is wider and deeper than the desire to survive with ease.
